Vragen vormen en indirecte rede
Woordvolgorde
De normale woordvolgorde wordt gebruikt bij doorvertelde vragen. Dat wil zeggen: het onderwerp komt voor het werkwoord en het is niet nodig om 'do' of 'did' te gebruiken:

Ja- / Nee-vragen
Dit soort vraag wordt weergegeven door 'ask' + 'if / whether' + bijzin te gebruiken:

Vraagwoorden
Dit soort vraag wordt weergegeven door 'ask' (of een ander werkwoord als 'ask') + vraagwoord + bijzin te gebruiken. De bijzin bevat de vraag, in normale woordvolgorde en met de nodige wijziging in tijd.
